Foreign Bodies Stomach s/p Ingestion
Foreign Bodies Stomach
The KUB demostrates a battery and a hairpin overlying the stomach
of this male prisoner. Ingestion of foreign objects is not uncommonly
seen in several settings:
- Young children.
- Mentally retarded or those with a psychiatric history.
- Visually impaired.
- Suicide attempts.
- Criminal attempt to conceal drugs or stolen goods.
- Prisoners or street people attempting to gain hospital admission.
Treatment will depend on the nature of the object and its location in
the GI tract. Endoscopic or surgical removal may be required.
